Ever since I first tried puto, I have been a fan. Puto is a steamed rice cake popular in the Philippines. It is sometimes flavored with ube, although there are many variations. Tried making the basic version at home today and it was pretty simple. Instead of baking it, you steam it for 30 minutes and voila. Sweet, airy goodness. It's sweet (thanks to all the sugar, I now know). I think next time I will try experimenting with adding some flavors like vanilla. We used our mini muffin pan to make tiny puto so I don't feel nearly as guilty when popping a couple.
